Ethics in Action

New Leaf Foods is very proud of our own Karen Early. She was awarded an Ethics in Action Award on Oct. 15. This award is given annually by Foundations Health & Wholeness to honor the people who create healthy workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods in our community.

Karen Early

Karen partnered with the professional social work program at UWGB to pilot the first food security study in Brown County in 1998. Their studies illuminated the extent of the problem of food insecurity and inspired the launch of the Brown County Food Security Initiative, which planned actions to improve food access in three ways: emergency food access, federal food programs, and community outreach. Her work with food pantries, community gardens, school gardens, farm-to-school, and New Leaf Garden Blitz have all helped to improve food security in Brown County.

Karen’s work is very important in supporting healthy food access and education for everyone, especially for children. Congratulations and thank you, Karen!
