Current Projects

Empowering individuals in our community with the ability to grow and harvest their own food remains central to our mission. We are focused on our Community Orchards and Bountiful Branches projects, which provide edible perennial plants to our community.

Our current projects have taken the principles of the Garden Blitz and incorporated a permaculture approach to planting. Permaculture practice invites a more permanent urban agricultural system, all while requiring less work to upkeep the plants. Edible trees and shrubs planted today will continue to feed the members of our community for generations to come!

Garden Blitz: A Decade of Growth

Our Garden Blitz project has had a tremendous impact on the Green Bay Community throughout its 10 year run. We may be pivoting to other projects, but the efforts of the Garden Blitz will be felt for years to come.

Our mission for the Garden Blitz project was to empower residents to grow their own food and be part of an urban agricultural system. As our blitzing days come to end, we’re proud to say that our efforts, with the help of numerous volunteers, partners, and sponsors, have increased access to nutritious food for our community members.

Impact

Since 2014, the Blitz saw the installation of 945 garden boxes throughout our community, 615 participating volunteers, and 132 garden mentors. We have installed boxes at 16 shelters/pantries and 31 schools in addition to individual home gardens.

82% of recipients reported learning new gardening skills, and over 60% reported being more physically active, eating more fruits and vegetables, and spending less money on food. In 2022, our recipients at the Admiral Court apartment complex expressed a newfound sense of community as residents came together every other week to nurture the garden beds. The children there have also been able to learn more about how food is grown and have a hands-on experience in taking care of the gardens. This is just one testimonial from our many recipients who are enjoying the fruits - and vegetables - of their labors.

Thank You Volunteers, Partners & Sponsors!

We are so grateful to have been a part of this effort to help increase our community members’ access to healthy foods through the hard work and dedication of the people who came together to make it all possible. We’ve come a long way since 2014, and we know that our gardens will continue to grow and prosper in the hands of those who planted them – providing good food for good health, now and for generations.

Key Project Contributors

We value our volunteers as much as we value our donors and sponsors. Without the hundreds of great volunteers, garden mentors, and coordinators who have worked on this project throughout the years, this project would not have even remotely become as well-known or as widespread as it is today.

We cannot thank all of you enough.
