Tundra Grove Brings the Magic of Food Forests to Green Bay
By Eric Koeppel
Food forestry has been increasing in popularity, and Green Bay local Tyler Delsart has proven that this sustainable trend is more than possible in Northeast Wisconsin with Tundra Grove. Often consisting of seven layers, a food forest is designed to produce an edible landscape that can promote sustainability and healthy eating.
Designed to create perennial food forests from frontier habitats, Tundra Grove brings the magic of food forests to the Green Bay area. Founded by Tyler Delsart, Tundra Grove is a “developing urban homestead that mimics forest ecology.” The food forest itself is an impressive operation, and an inspiration to those in the community who value sustainable produce and urban food scaping. “I live and grow at the Grove to set an example of sustainability, inspiration, and beauty in the Green Bay area,” Delsart writes.
With a mission to “promote biodiverse habitats in agricultural and urban systems, while encouraging edible landscape design,” Tundra Grove produces foraged foods, fungi, traditional fruits, and heirloom vegetables. You can check out and purchase some of the amazing offerings produced at Tundra Grove, from dried fungi to salad blends with wild foraged edibles, at the farmers market on Broadway on Wednesdays.
In addition to their presence at the Broadway farmer’s market, Tundra Grove also offers some exciting selections through their online shop, all of which are available for local delivery and USPS priority shipping. Products on the Tundra Grove online shop range from agar culture to maple syrup, and there is even an impressive selection seeds for peppers, kale, and a variety of tomatoes, making it possible for you to plant a grove of your own.
