Seymour Park Food Forest

This project aims to help alleviate food insecurity and food deserts within the City of Green Bay by growing healthy local food in this public park in a way that is sustainable, costs less money over time, and reduces maintenance for the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department.  It is a pilot project in partnership with the City of Green Bay and the Seymour Park Neighborhood Association. This project started in 2020 and is located inside the Frank B. Seymour Park near the Broadway and Shipyard Districts at 314 S Ashland Ave Green Bay, WI 54303

Why is it important?

Grocery store prices are constantly on the rise. There are kids and elderly folks in our community who are going or not getting healthy food. An increasing amount of people are becoming food insecure and our best way to combat these issues is to think and produce food locally by collaborating with our neighbors. The Seymour Park Food Forest proves that a community can come and work together to produce its own food in an effort to increase food security.

In the future, we envision Seymour Park being a template to create more sustainable community food forests for Brown County and a place for educational events such as walks, planting days, or cider making and canning classes.

The Seymour Park Food Forest’s Comprehensive Plan

Augustine Stewardship Fund Trust Grant

In early 2023, The Premonstratensian Fathers, the legal name of St. Norbert Abbey (De Pere), awarded an Augustine Stewardship Fund Trust grant to New Leaf Foods, Inc. for the funding of Seymour Park Food Forest Implementation. Without their support, this project would not have been possible.

Since the beginning of the Seymour Park Food Forest, we have had numerous volunteers who have helped with planting and maintaining the plant life and other gardening activities. If you’d like to contribute to the project, please don’t hesitate to volunteer!
